Advisor to Commissioner Patty Monahan, 
California Energy Commission

Ben De Alba is an advisor to Commissioner Patty Monahan, who is the lead commissioner for transportation at the California Energy Commission. In this role, Ben works on a range of policy topics concerning clean transportation, including the adoption of zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

He served in Governor Jerry Brown’s administration from 2012 to 2017 as the Assistant Secretary for Rail and Ports at the California State Transportation Agency and as Special Assistant at the California Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency.

Prior to joining Commissioner Monahan’s office, Ben managed the Freight and Transit Unit within the Energy Commission’s Fuels and Transportation Division and served as an Air Pollution Specialist in the Freight Transport Branch at the California Air Resources Board.

Ben earned an MPA from the University of San Francisco and a bachelor’s degree in political science from San Diego State University.
